Click to enlargeThe Architecture of Reform:<BR>GEMS and National Standards

for science education. This new handbook is a major revision of the GEMS "themes handbook," also known as To Build A House. It broadens the discussion to summarize the messages of the main reform documents (including the National Science Education Standards and Benchmarks for Science Literacy). The handbook shows how GEMS activities and curriculum sequences assist teachers in implementing reforms, in the classroom and throughout the educational system. Several chapters are written from the standpoint of the year 2020, and this "future vision" provides an effective way to clarify the "common vision" that all leading science reform efforts share.
